Visited the store today on a Saturday while I was craving for their cake and coffee. I was in line for about 5 to 10 mins while there were 2 customer in front of me. While it is my turn to order, I was told that the coffee machine had just been closed and the customer right in front of me was the last order. It would have been nicer if the other staff could come around and let us know as there were a few ppl behind me hoping to order coffees as well. I just left and head to other cafe nearby who cares about customer service.
A much anticipated visit and satisfying time sampling various baked goods, including the famous watermelon cake! While it does sound off-putting, the moisture and texture from the fruit complement the soft sweet cake in a freshing manner. Also tried the apricot frangipane tart, and croissant, both equally as delicious! Definitely worth the go!
Really nice find.Love the bakeries with a variety of unique treats. You won't be disappointed.
This new outlet of Black Star Pastry is big! Located inside EQ, the space is light and airy and opens up on both the street side & market side. It spans 2 modern levels so plenty of seating inside and out. There is a large kitchen out the back of the cafe enclosed by large windows where you can see everything that's going on. Cakes being made and decorated, pies being made, watermelon being cut. Inside the cafe, everything on offer is beautifully displayed - from whole cakes, pies, quiches, pastries, to the infamous watermelon cake to the new Japanese forest cake. On this occasion, we had the relatively new mango cake which was delicious, light & summery. Contrasting to this was a super decadent chocolate cake. Then there was the watermelon cake. Everyone was too eager to tuck in so no photos were taken. Coffee by Little Marionette is nice and well made although I am intrigued to try the Black Sesame latte next time. After so many sweets, I had to get a beef brisket pie to go for later. The inside was super tender and flavoursome. Pastry was lovely also. The pie is not as big as it looks as the pastry puffs up and there is an air pocket inside so don't need to worry about over indulging. Glad to have this new location and looking forward to the next visit already!
Amazing pastries, nice vibe, friendly staff, good coffee. Worth a visit. Can see why Black Star have such a good name. Should have really been a 4 and a half star review (rather than 5.) They just need to get the coffee a notch up.
